Artur Pizarro and Rinaldo Zhok are two great pianists, each brought together by a solo CD for the Odradek label: Artur Pizarro’s Rachmaninoff series, and Rinaldo Zhok’s disc of Liszt–Verdi transcriptions. Both pianists were also advised by the great Aldo Ciccolini, whose legacy continues to influence them. Inspired by each other’s interpretations, they decided to collaborate and formed the Pizarro-Zhok Piano Duo in 2014. The two pianists are ardent advocates of music written for piano four hands (as opposed to music for two pianos). This repertoire, too often underestimated, is described by the artists as representing the deepest and most complex form of “making music together.”
