HIGHLIGHTING THE STR-DH190's MAIN ISSUES, AS WELL AS SONY'S FRUSTRATING RESPONSE. WHAT FOLLOWS IS MY INITIAL REVIEW THAT I POSTED, AND BELOW THAT WAS SONY’S RESPONSE TO THAT INITIAL REVIEW. (THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT I COULD ‘RESPOND’ TO SONY’S COMMENTS, AS YOU ARE UNABLE-TO ‘EDIT’ YOUR REVIEW AFTER SONY RESPOND, AND I AM PARTIALLY-BLIND AND VERY FRUSTRATED AFTER THIS RESPONSE.) MY INITIAL REVIEW, 22nd April 2025. "It's an ok entry-level amplifier for vinyl, but.. STR-DH190 22/04/2025 by Trying to Help (United Kingdom) I like things to be as simple as possible, as I'm partially-blind. Sound-wise; it's fine. It's an entry-level integrated amplifier with phono support, that was obviously not going-to be as good a replacement for my Creek® amplifier; but there is sufficient power there to drive two good sets of audiophile-quality speakers. I couldn't quite fit my original speaker wire gauge in these spring-mounted connection clips; which has affected the quality somewhat. The antenna didn't work from new, and was only told to purchase one from an online Sony® parts re-distribution store; seemingly affiliated-to Sony®. I haven't done this yet, as I don’t quite trust the site, it’s expensive; and I don’t quite know why Sony® wouldn’t send a replacement. I am somewhat frustrated that quite a few of the controls are only available to change via the remote-control. Basic sound changes. Bass, treble, balance; and also changing the ohm rating, etc. These are basics; so, I did expect a bit more from an entry-level amplifier that has a ‘less than smooth’ physical volume feel, a seemingly worsening electrical ‘clunk’ each time this amplifier is turned both on and off, and it does seem-to get quite hot, too. I’m just wondering how long this is going-to last, if I’m honest; and whether the Sony customer-services team are simply going-to tell me where to purchase a new amplifier from, if it all just fails. Just as they did with the failed antenna. I was forced-to take this machine; (to be able-to hear important audible text that I cannot see to read) so, I really cannot complain; but given the choice as a partially-sighted person, I’d have personally chosen an amplifier with physically adjustable ‘basic’ controls; rather-than relying upon braille via the remote-control unit. It’ll be fine for someone who just wants a basic sounding system, and also wants-to connect a turntable as part of that set-up. As this amplifier seems-to work best with vinyl. RESPONSE FROM SONY SUPPORT TEAM (WITH MY EDITS INTERSPERSING THESE LESS-THAN ACCEPTABLE OR RESPECTFUL COMMENTS THAT I RECEIVED.) Dated 28/04/2025 Hi, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you're facing difficulties with your STR-DH190; this is not the norm, as we always strive to deliver the best quality possible. Yet, we're happy to hear that you're enjoying the sound quality. (EDIT: I ONLY STATED THAT THE SOUND IS 'BETTER SUITED' TO VINYL. THE SOUND-QUALITY IS STILL QUITE POOR FOR A HI-RES CERTIFIED PRODUCT. QUITE POSSIBLY DUE-TO THE FACT THAT THE SPRING-CLIP SPEAKER CONNECTIONS DO ‘NOT’ ALLOW-FOR A PARTICULARLY HIGH-GAUGE OF SPEAKER WIRE TO BE INSERTED INTO THEM.) You can learn more about how to correctly install and connect the speakers, AV devices, and FM wire antenna at this link: https://cutt.ly/Vrjxzslc (EDIT: THIS IS INSULTING, I MAYBE PARTIALLY-BLIND, BUT I AM CAREFUL AND I DEFINITELY KNOW HOW-TO INSTALL ANTENNAS AND SPEAKERS INTO ANY AMPLIFIER; ESPECIALLY, WHEN THEY'RE AS BASIC AS THEY ARE ON THIS AMPLIFIER. I INFORM SONY® THAT THE ANTENNA HAS NEVER WORKED, AND SONY® THEN ASSUME THAT THE 'CONSUMER' IS AT-FAULT, AND 'NOT' THE ANTENNA ITSELF.) Also, you adjust the volume using the volume button on the receiver instead of using the remote control by following the steps on page 22 here: https://cutt.ly/drjxmg2a And you can learn more about the parts and controls of the amplifier on page 8. (EDIT: A PAINFULLY INSULTING RESPONSE TO ANYONE, BEING TOLD TO LOOK IN A MANUAL FOR HOW TO 'INCREASE AND DECREASE THE VOLUME' ON A BASIC AMPLIFIER, AND I MERELY STATED THAT THERE WERE 'CERTAIN' CHANGES TO EVEN THE MOST 'BASIC' CONTROLS (SUCH AS THE BASS, TREBLE AND BALANCE) THAT CAN 'ONLY' BE MADE BY USING THE REMOTE CONTROL.) Regarding the 'clunk' noise issue, make sure to follow the steps below and test again: 1. Check that the speakers and device are connected securely. 2. Unplug the amplifier from the mains and plug it back in after 1 minute. 3. Make sure that the connecting cables are not near a transformer or motor. 4. Move your audio device away from the TV. 5. If the plugs and jacks are dirty, wipe them with a cloth slightly moistened with alcohol. (EDIT: THIS ITEM IS NEW AND PERFECTLY INSTALLED TO ACCOUNT-FOR ANY ISSUES; AND YET, I HAVE 'STILL' PERFORMED THE ABOVE PROCEDURE MANY TIMES PRIOR-TO YOUR RESPONSE, AND ALL TO NO-AVAIL.) Although the receiver heats up during operation, this is not a malfunction. If you continuously use this receiver at a large volume, the cabinet temperature of the top, side, and bottom rises considerably. To avoid burning yourself, do not touch the cabinet. (EDIT: I CAN USE THIS AMPLIFIER TO MERELY LISTEN-TO MY HEADPHONES ON A TYPICALLY LOW-VOLUME; AND IT STILL GETS UNUSUALLY HOT.) Also, you can prevent heat build up by placing the receiver in a location with adequate ventilation (EDIT: AS ALREADY PREVIOUSLY STATED HERE; THE AMPLIFIER IS PROPERLY SITUATED, AND COULDN’T BE ANY BETTER VENTILATED THAN IT ALREADY IS. Moreover, if you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us using the details here: https://cutt.ly/heoRCkdW (EDIT: I’VE WRITTEN TO ‘ASK’ FOR AN ANTENNA, AS I DO NOT SEE WHY I SHOULD PURCHASE SOMETHING THAT’S FAILED FROM BRAND-NEW. SONY® ONLY ASSUME THAT THE CONSUMER HASN’T PROPERLY INSTALLED THE SAID ACCESSORY; RATHER-THAN CONSIDER THAT THE PART MIGHT HAVE JUST FAILED.) The antenna has never worked from new; and I 'do' know how to properly install-it. The antenna just doesn't work, when other radio devices all ‘do’ work, and all pick-up radio stations. This antenna just doesn't work, and I need a replacement sent for this registered product. I am a little partially-deaf; (hence why I require such a good-sounding device to help me) so, telephoning may be an issue. And whilst also being very partially-sighted, I am still very careful whenever trying-to connect delicate cables such as this, and also intelligent enough to know when something (an antenna in this instance) simply doesn't work. I say this, because it takes me a very long-time to create these messages, when I can see very little, at all. I don't need a lot of back-and-forth messaging; and that's why I've included everything required within this e-mail to speed-up the process of at-least making the radio work well; as little else does. (EDIT: WE’LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS, BUT I WOULDN’T PURCHASE THIS PARTICULAR AMPLIFIER UNLESS YOU’RE NOT EXPECTING MUCH IN THE WAY OF QUALITY OR CONVENIENCE. OR, SIMPLY SET-IT-UP ONCE, LEAVE-IT; AND JUST HOPE THAT IT WORKS WHEN YOU NEXT SWITCH IT ON, AGAIN.)

Amplifier sounds good and Bluetooth works very well and connects easily to other devices. FM tuner sounds ok although would have been better if the aerial socket was a proper 75ohm coaxial one as the wire aerial supplied isn't good also why isn't the tuner a Dab one because there aren't many FM stations left anymore. The unit also has a noisy mains transformer which causes the case to resonate I lessened the hum by placing small weight over the area where the transformer and it worked.

Brukes hver dag på Monitor Audio høyttalere sammen med TV og Musikk fra Chromecast Audio. Bedre lyd enn lydplanke for de som setter pris på det.

I bought this amplifier to replace a 20 year old top of the range Sony amp. I am so pleased I did. It's very easy to use and the sound quality is as good if not better than my old unit. The Bluetooth is brilliant as are the dual A & B speakers.

I chose the STR-DH190 because it has all the features I was seeking, adequate power output, multiple line inputs and compact size, BUT the STR-DH190 I received has an annoying electro-mechanical chassis hum, audible at some distance from my Hi Fi station. Note that this hum is not the result of a hum loop but emanates from the casing of the STR-DH190. It is the type of the noise that is customarily associated with an inadequately secured windings or cores of a mains transformer.. I have not returned the item because I am not confident that Sony's automated returns process will give me an STR-DH190 that is free of this electro-mechanical hum.

Bought this model particularly because it has a phono input. I try to play it above 35 on volume, it goes into safe mode. I can play bluetooth music around 70 with no trouble.
