The Swiss photographer Yannic Bartolozzi was warmly welcomed at the cadre of Vovousa's second Festival Artist Residency Program. During his one-month stay, May 15th - June 15th 2017, he took a series of photos, landscape and local residents, released in his project titled "Beyond the Mountains."
Regardless of the digital age, characterized by the exuberance of computerized technology, Yannic Bartolozzi chose to shoot in an old-fashioned style, using a pinhole camera with a simple small-hole lens, transmitting light directly onto a 10x12,5 cm film surface.
His nonconforming choice urged him to acclimate with the slow pace of the small mountainous village. Altogether the long exposures of film to light, the necessary usage of a tripod, the total lack of preview, as well as the manual developing of the film negatives within a makeshift dark room, impelled him to slow down and proceed without haste.
