Rebel Takes: On the Future of Food

On the Future of Food is a deep-dive into our complex relationship with food on a global scale - from a means to assert ownership of the world to an indispensable tactic of civil rights movements. Catherine Joy White takes her experience as an advisor to the United Nations to establish the cultural, social, personal and political power of food, as a blueprint to life, a flagstone of community and a human right that many go without.

White imparts a rich and expansive legacy that forms our contemporary relationship with food and the land itself - and highlights what we have forgotten along the way. Bringing to life her vision of a future that demands we must look back to go forward, White tackles issues of food poverty and its intersections with gender, a growing disconnect with the natural world and misconceptions of disordered eating, underlined, without fail, by the hope and knowledge that we can do better.

Rebel Takes is a series that asks its writers, first and foremost, to hope. Exploring the past and present of foundational aspects of society and culture, each instalment will envision an alternative future, charge history with radical possibility and most vitally set out to answer the question: how can we make change happen?
