Who managed to stop getting laid, then get laid off in the space of a month? They say processing a breakup can feel similar to grief. If that’s so, how was handling a breakup, losing your job, and inadvertently showing the head of HR a glimpse of your ancient Calvin Kleins supposed to feel? I felt like I was the one remaining baby hamster whose mother had panic-eaten my siblings and left me bewildered, naked and alone. And so, like a hamster, I scuttled to my wheel and entered a cycle of comfort. Sofa. Doomscrolling. Deliveroos.
