Leonardo the Art of Drawing

This is a stunningly illustrated look at some of Leonardo's finest drawings - from iconic images to simple sketches. Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer whose genius the world may never know the likes of again. As a painter, Leonardo's works occupy unique positions in the world of art, but it is his drawings - sometimes simple sketches, executed with a quick but confident hand, or finished works destined to leave an everlasting mark on the world of art - that have captured the imagination of generations and had such a profound impact on history. This magnificently illustrated volume brings together some of the finest examples of Leonardo's drawings - from the iconic Vitruvian Man and his superbly detailed anatomical drawings to quick but emotive portraits and his technical sketches - and gives an unrivalled and fascinating insight into his exquisite draftsmanship.
