“Something of a love letter to New Orleans,” Alec
Ounsworth’s Mo Beauty is finally available again on vinyl
redesign featuring gatefold, spot gloss varnish, and marble
smokey vinyl. The Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) produced “Mo
Beauty” features Ounsworth’s trademarks alongside New
Orleans finest musicians (George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore,
among others). The songs were written in conjunction with
CYHSY material but, with this material, Ounsworth tried a
different look.
The limited deluxe reissue is being released in the wake of
the 20th anniversary of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, the
classic self-titled debut album, and its celebratory 2025
worldwide tour.“Almost every tune on Mo Beauty equals or betters those on
CYHSY's lauded 2005 debut” SPIN“"That Is Not My Home (After Bruegel)", a set of vignettes each
beginning with "me and the wife," set to a wonderful blend of swoony
new wave, punchy brass, and torrid string swells, which just might be
the best song he's ever done [...] an album that showcases the
breadth of his talents” PitchforkA fitting legacy to post-Katrina New Orleans and its rich musical
heritage and extraordinary musicianship, as well as further
confirmation of Alec Ounsworth as a songwriter with the talent to work
across genres and styles, crafting inspired music no matter how
adventurous the ground he’s covering. Vibrant and eclectic, it’s a
wonderfully rich collection of songs; strings swell, the horns are sassy
and playful, and there are moments of haunting, crystalline beauty.
