Founding member and guitarist of legendary afro-funk-rock-band Jagatara, EBBY’s solo album is finally here! Featuring a who’s who of guest vocalists, this album is going to blow your pants off!
Formed around the seminal talent of Edo Akemi in 1979, with their debut album, Nanbantorai coming three years later, Jagatara was one of the seminal bands of the 1980’s. Their unique brand of rock incorporated funk and african rhythms, making them stand out even as city pop was beginning to rear its head. The band dissolved after the accidental death of Edo in 1990, but would reunite thirty years later as Jagatara 2020!
A central member in both incarnations of the band, founding member and guitarist EBBY’s first solo album sees him draw from the wide range of influences that have always informed his playing. From Irish punk, to reggae, to country, to techno-kayo, this album has it all! EBBY’s guitar playing is as groovy as ever, and whether he’s reinterpreting songs from his days with Jagatara (“Hadaka no Oosama” (The Naked King) has been updated to be “Shin Hadaka no Oosama” (The New Naked King)) or writing originals and singing over them himself, EBBY is never afraid to shake things up. If you’re a fan of funk, country, or anything in between, this is an album you must get!
